Chinglish.Cafe is a community-driven archive, and we rely on eagle-eyed contributors like you to keep this dictionary growing.

What makes a great submission?

When submitting a phrase, please try to include the following details so we can create a high-quality entry:

1. The Chinglish Phrase: The exact text you saw or heard (e.g., “Open water”).
2. The Original Chinese: If you know it (e.g., “开水”).
3. The Native Meaning: What it actually means in standard English (e.g., “Boiled water”).
4. Context / Photo: Where did you see it? (If you have a photo of the sign or menu, PLEASE attach it—it makes the entry 100x better!).
